The academic seminar on Cultural Exchange and Mutual Learning between China and Arab Countries with the theme of Ibn Battuta and China was held at the Chinese Cultural Center (CCC) in Rabat, Morocco, on July 12.
Ibn Battuta is a famous Moroccan explorer who toured China from 1345 to 1346.
The seminar was organized by the International Confucian Association (ICA), Beijing Foreign Studies University, and the Africa China Cooperation Association for Development (ACCAD), with the Rabat China Cultural Center as the host.
ICA Vice President Li Wei emphasized the importance of cultural exchanges and mutual learning for civilizations, adding that the ICA is dedicated to collaborating with intellectuals worldwide to enhance mutual understanding, promote Chinese culture, preserve global cultural diversity, and facilitate dialogue between civilizations. He encourages Moroccan scholars to come to China to further explore and share traditional classics between China and Arab countries to strengthen friendship.
Chinese Ambassador to Morocco Li Changlin highlighted the China-Morocco relationship as a model of mutual respect and equal exchanges between nations and civilizations, saying that the vibrant humanistic exchanges and cultural learning between the two countries set a regional example. He said that he anticipates deeper exchanges among Chinese and Moroccan experts.
ACCAD President Nasser Bouchiba praised China's contributions to global sustainability through initiatives such as the Belt and Road Initiative and urged Arab scholars to emulate Ibn Battuta’s spirit, and enhance cooperation with China.
During the event, attendees from the countries discussed Ibn Battuta’s impact on dialogue between Chinese and Arab civilizations, his understanding of China, his enlightenment, and the modern significance of his travels.
ICA Deputy Secretary-General Xu Yongji, CCC in Rabat Director Liu Chengang and Executive Director Hu Yali, along with experts and scholars from China and Morocco, participated in the event.
